There are some short term on-going intermittent issues in macOS 12+ affecting some Thunderbolt docks in general after macOS going into sleep mode.
Until this is resolved, Thunderbolt dock users who are experiencing these issues, please try the steps below.
Users on macOS 12.0 – 12.2.1:
We highly recommend that anyone using macOS 12.0 – 12.2.1 update to macOS 12.3.1 for improved stability.
- If you encounter a system crash or kernel panic when using macOS 12.0 to 12.2.1, please update to macOS 12.3.1 or 12.4.
- If your Thunderbolt SSD or any USB device connected to the Thunderbolt dock is constantly missing after waking up from sleep mode, please update to macOS 12.3.1 or 12.4.
- If the Ethernet connection on the Thunderbolt dock is constantly missing after waking up from sleep mode, please update to macOS 12.3.1 or 12.4.
Users on macOS 12.3, 12.3.1 or 12.4
If you see your connected USB devices, storage devices, and Thunderbolt SSD are constantly ejecting themselves, or dock’s Ethernet does not work after waking up from sleep mode, please do one of the following two options to resolve the problem:
Option #1: Turn off Sleep Mode in macOS:
If you do not specifically need Sleep Mode enabled we suggest to turn it off.
Go to “System Preferences” -> “Battery” or “Energy Saver” and choose “Power Adapter” then enable “Prevent your Mac from automatically sleeping when the display off“

Option # 2: Reconnect the Thunderbolt dock on each OS reboot before your computer goes into sleep mode:
- 2.1. Connect Thunderbolt dock to your Mac, then restart your Mac
- 2.2. Once you login to macOS, disconnect Thunderbolt dock from your Mac
- 2.3. Wait 3 seconds, then reconnect Thunderbolt dock back to your Mac
You only need to do this once on each reboot. After reconnecting the dock, you should not run into any sleep-related issues.
If your Mac’s Thunderbolt port becomes unresponsive where none of the Thunderbolt devices or the USB devices connected to Thunderbolt dock can be detected, please try another Thunderbolt port on your Mac or restart your Mac.
