Today we are delighted to announce CalDigit’s latest docking solution, the SOHO Dock, or Small Office Home Office Dock. This new device is available to back on Kickstarter starting today for up to 60% off. The Kickstarter ends November 3rd 2020. Shortly after that time the SOHO Dock will be available to purchase directly from CalDigit and Amazon.
Our intention was to release a product to compete in the USB-C hub market. However, we wanted to create a product that exceeded expectations by providing features not typically found with Gen.1 5Gb/s USB-C hubs.
The SOHO Dock is a Gen.2 10Gb/s USB-C dock for use with USB-C and Thunderbolt 3 laptops. It can be used either bus-powered or AC-powered. By implementing double the performance of tradition Gen.1 hubs, the SOHO Dock is capable of much more.
4K 60Hz Display or Dual Displays
The SOHO Dock can connect to a full 4K 60Hz display, either through the HDMI 2.0b, or DisplayPort 1.4 connectors. Traditional Gen. 1 5Gb/s hubs are generally capable of 4K 30Hz or require drivers to get to 4K 60Hz. The added bandwidth of the SOHO Dock allows for improved performance and 4K 60Hz without drivers.
In addition to this the SOHO Dock can be used to connect to dual monitors. macOS users can connect to dual 4K 30Hz mirrored displays, and Windows users can connect to dual mirrored or extended displays.
USB-C 10Gb/s
Both the USB-C and USB-A data ports offer full 10Gb/s performance for connecting high performance SSDs or accessories. Gen. 1 hubs offer reduced performance from their USB ports, as they only offer 5Gb/s performance.
Pass-Through Charging
The dedicated pass-through charging port provides up to 100W power delivery which is shared by all of the USB ports on the dock. This allows users to connect their laptop’s Type-C charger (not included) to power their laptop. However, the SOHO Dock is fully bus-powered, and can be used on-the-road or at a home office.
Premium Features
The SOHO Dock includes features not traditionally found in USB-C hubs. This includes dedicated lanes for both the video and USB signals. When a monitor is connected to the SOHO Dock the USB performance will not drop. Many Gen.1 USB-C hubs share the video and USB bandwidth, which means that when a monitor is connected USB performance will reduce. This will not happen with the SOHO Dock.
The SD card connectors on the SOHO Dock include 15u gold plating, which improves signal strength, and the USB-C cable’s internal USB-C connector has 30u gold plating. In addition, the USB-C cable is a premium coaxial cable which improves signal strength and shields from electrical interference.
